We are privileged to source grapes from some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon growers in the Napa Valley. To pay homage to these exceptional vineyards, we craft the exclusive Distinguished Vineyards series of wines. In 2021, we were proud to select Battuello Vineyard in St. Helena as one of these vineyards, recognizing their illustrious history and unwavering commitment to excellence.
VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING
The Battuello Vineyard is a fourth-generation, family-run vineyard in St. Helena – with the fifth generation already living on the farm. The current patriarch (Craig) and his sons (Dave and Mark) meticulously farm the vineyard. Craig and Dave jointly own the vineyard, and Dave takes great pride in carrying on the family tradition. Known for an impeccable farming style, each block is farmed individually.
VINTAGE
The 2021 growing season will be remembered for being the second consecutive year of very dry conditions during winter and spring and for challenging weather during bloom and heat, cold, wind, and rain during flowering. This resulted in a reduction in yield and more variability in the clusters themselves. We had classic Napa Valley weather during the heart of the growing season with moderate temperatures and cool sea breezes in the afternoon and evening all summer. Early September saw a mini heat wave that pushed ripeness along, then a return to beautiful weather for the remainder of harvest. Berries were a little smaller than usual with loose clusters. Overall, this may be the best vintage for quality.
TASTING NOTES
This Cabernet Sauvignon presents an enticing bouquet with aromas of black cherry and raspberries, immediately captivating the senses. Spices and clove add an aromatic depth, while a hint of black licorice introduces a subtle complexity that intrigues.
The palate is rich and round, showcasing a smooth, luscious mouthfeel. The silky tannins create an elegant structure, unfolding the flavors beautifully. The finish is long and lingering, marked by deep dark fruit notes that echo the initial aromas, leaving a satisfying and memorable impression.
