2024 Cellarius Chardonnay
ABOUT CELLARIUS
Cellarius is crafted by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, the acclaimed winery that bested top French wines in a 1976 blind tasting known as the Judgment of Paris. The estate has made world-class wines since the 1970s and is recognized for consistent quality and ageability. The name “Cellarius” is inspired by the Latin word for “cellarer,” a nod to the winemaking and vineyard team that diligently cultivates the vineyards and guides the wines as they age to perfection.
VINTAGE
The 2024 season started with a cool spring that gave way to warmer temperatures with heat gradually intensifying through May and June. In July, just before veraison, a heat spike helped manage vine vigor and accelerated flavor development. As a result, Chardonnay was harvested earlier and at lower brix levels than in previous years due to this early flavor progression. A brief cooling period in late September was succeeded by an extended heat event in early October, which led to an early conclusion of the harvest. This extended heatwave stressed the vines, yet they displayed remarkable resilience and sustained minimal cluster damage due to precise and timely irrigation management by the viticulture teams. The white wines from this vintage stand out with bright, vibrant flavors, characterized by crisp acidity and complexity. This vintage embodies excellence, promising wines that will resonate with enthusiasts for years to come.
TASTING NOTES
Cellarius Chardonnay has notes of orange peel, lime, green apple, and melon with a distinct hint of honeysuckle. The mouthfeel is broad without being heavy and is supported by subtle sweet oak. It’s a savory Chardonnay with a silky, polished finish.
